I loved writing this blog many years ago, and have come back to read some of the entries again. I let it go for a long time partly because of other projects. But the bigger reason was because it felt that public discussion was so polarized and aggressive for some time that it was less productive to post anything. Many people would feel nothing has changed, or it is even worse.
But I see grounds for renewed hope. AI is rapidly changing all our core assumptions, and in ways which are closely related to the things I wrote about on this blog. The real challenges are not technological, but how society adapts to wholly new possibilities about work, abundance, legitimacy, political norms and value. It is the human questions which matter.
Many of those questions are timeless: the answers need to change, however.
I'm likely to shift most writing to X and Substack, but I'll periodically update here and refer back to posts from other venues.
